Year-end accounts preparation

Statutory accounts prepared early, filed correctly at Companies House and explained in a meeting rather than an email.

Financial documents and notes spread across a desk during a review

Overview

Year-End Accounts explained

Year-end accounts serve two purposes. They discharge a legal obligation to Companies House and HMRC, and they tell you what the business actually did over twelve months. Too often only the first purpose gets served.

We prepare accounts under FRS 105 and FRS 102 Section 1A for companies, and full accounts for sole traders and partnerships, working to internal deadlines that leave room to plan rather than simply file.

Benefits

What you get from it

Prepared early

Drafts within weeks of the year end, not months. Knowing the tax figure nine months before it is due changes what you can do about it.

Filed correctly

Abridged or filleted filing at Companies House where appropriate, so you disclose the minimum legally required.

Explained properly

A meeting to walk through gross margin, overheads, drawings and the tax position — with the comparison against last year.

Bank and lender ready

Accounts presented in a form that supports finance applications, mortgage references and lease negotiations.

Included

What the service covers

  • Statutory accounts under FRS 105 or FRS 102 Section 1A
  • Trial balance review, adjustments, accruals and prepayments
  • Fixed asset register and capital allowances review
  • Director's loan account reconciliation and planning
  • Companies House filing and Confirmation Statement
  • Corporation Tax computation and CT600 submission
  • Comparative analysis against prior years
  • A results meeting with recommendations for the year ahead

Problems solved

Issues we see most often

Director's loan overdrawn

An overdrawn loan account at year end triggers a s455 charge. Spotted early, it can usually be managed.

Capital allowances missed

Plant, machinery and commercial vehicles frequently qualify for relief that never gets claimed.

Filing deadline penalties

Companies House penalties start at £150 and escalate quickly. They are entirely avoidable.

Process

How we deliver it

  1. 01

    Records

A clear checklist of what we need — usually far shorter if we already handle the bookkeeping.

  2. 02

    Preparation

Accounts drafted, with a consolidated query list rather than a drip-feed of emails.

  3. 03

    Review

We check the tax position and identify anything that should be dealt with before filing.

  4. 04

    Meeting

We talk through the numbers, the tax and the options while there is still time to act.

  5. 05

    Filing

Approval, signature, submission to Companies House and HMRC, and confirmation of payment dates.

Local

In Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire

For Scunthorpe manufacturers and engineering firms, capital allowances on plant and equipment are usually the single biggest year-end opportunity. It is one of the first things we review.

FAQs

Year-End Accounts questions

A private company must file at Companies House within nine months of the year end, and pay Corporation Tax within nine months and a day, with the CT600 due within twelve months. We work to a much earlier internal date.
