Overview

Self Assessment Tax Returns explained

A tax return is straightforward until it is not. Rental profits, dividends, capital gains, pension annual allowance, child benefit charges and payments on account each add a layer where mistakes are easy and expensive.

We prepare Self Assessment returns for individuals across Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire — filed well before January, with the liability confirmed months in advance so it can be budgeted for.

Benefits

What you get from it

Filed early

We aim to complete returns between June and October so you know the January and July figures in good time.

Reliefs claimed

Pension relief at higher rates, gift aid, professional subscriptions, mileage, use of home and marriage allowance.

Payments on account explained

The January payment usually includes a payment on account for the following year. We set out what is due and when.

MTD for Income Tax ready

For sole traders and landlords within scope, we get the digital record keeping in place ahead of the requirement.

Problems solved

Issues we see most often

The January scramble

Late information means no time to plan and a liability that arrives as a shock. Filing in summer solves both.

CIS refunds delayed

Subcontractors are often owed substantial refunds. Filing promptly after 6 April gets that money back sooner.

Missed 60-day property reporting

A UK residential property disposal must be reported and paid within 60 days, separately from the annual return.

Process

How we deliver it

  1. 01

    Information request

A tailored checklist based on last year's return, not a generic form.

  2. 02

    Preparation

The return drafted, with queries raised in one batch.

  3. 03

    Review

We check for reliefs and allowances that were not claimed and flag anything worth planning for.

  4. 04

    Approval

You see the return and the calculation before anything is submitted.

  5. 05

    Filing

Submission to HMRC with written confirmation of amounts and due dates.

Local

In Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire

Many of the Self Assessment returns we prepare locally are for CIS subcontractors and landlords with property in and around Scunthorpe — two areas where a return prepared carelessly leaves money with HMRC.
